Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students are resilient, creative, curious, funny, and hard-working 3-5 year-olds who attend Pre-K at a Washington, DC public school. Our full-time classroom is part of an elementary school in a neighborhood where most students are considered to be "at-risk", determined based on socioeconomic needs. My students have been diagnosed with autism or other communication-related disabilities. Regardless of these labels, my students consistently prove what is possible with hard work and dedication.

For the 2024-2025 school year we are lucky to have a brand new modernized school building, but our huge room needs some dividers to make "centers" within the learning space.

Students with autism thrive on a predictable routine. Every day, my students rotate through several centers within the classroom learning 1:1 or in pairs with a teacher or aide. These dividers will help students have an organized, new, BIG, open classroom with distraction-free spaces for their learning to take place.
