Job DescriptionAssistant General Manager(Full Time, Exempt)Application Closing Deadline: For best consideration, please submit your application materials by 4:00 p.m. August 23, 2024Hiring Range is $62,192 to $77,768 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.Position SummaryUnder the supervision of the General Manager of Ice and Sports Operation, this position is responsible for the planning, organizing, scheduling, and promotion of the ice hockey programing. Directly supervises the Sports Complex ice staff and a variety of ice-skating programs to meet the recreation and competitive needs of the community. Assumes overall control and responsibility of the ice office and operations of the facilities in the absence of the General Manager. The AGM facilitates guest relations, registration functions, coach and parent education, inventory management, and budget accountability. This position inspires and motivates a team of professional staff, and is committed to our vision of creating a community where everyone participates in recreational experience that engage, inspire and enrich lives.
Essential Duties
- Plans, organizes, schedules, and supervises an extensive program of recreational ice-skating activities including, but not limited to, general public skating sessions, youth and adult hockey programs, and special events. Assists with the registration and publicity of learn-to-skate classes, figure skating sessions, hockey leagues, camps, tournaments and clinics
- Demonstrates a high level of customer service; encouraging others to focus on the customer; foster an environment where customer service is a priority.
- Demonstrate integrity and builds trust through credibility, reliability, commitment, loyalty, and ethical behavior.
- Regularly attend public sessions, clinics, tournaments, competitions, special events that fall under the span and scope of supervision. This may be outside a normal schedule.
- Directly oversee the youth, and adult hockey league and works closely with the volunteer Travel parent board providing effective oversight and leadership; fostering cooperative working relationships between the board and staff.
- Develop and maintain relationships with District employees, vendors, and various outside user groups to coordinate their programs and special events.
- Demonstrate support for team efforts by accepting new roles and responsibilities, and helping others achieve objectives.
- Develop, implement and track results of all marketing strategies; notify the public of District events. Promote and market rental of ice, schedule ice programs and special events.
- Prepares information for the District catalog.
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; and work with employees to correct deficiencies.
- Prepare and monitor the budget for assigned facilities and program areas; ensures efficient and effective use of budgeted funds; perform cost control measures and monitors revenues and expenses in assigned areas for fiscal management maximizing the cost recovery. Ensures that all monies collected are handled according to generally accepted accounting principles and according to District Policy.
- Recommends budget for the Ice Office programs, including fees and charges, and then is responsible for operating the ice facility and programs within the adopted budget.
- Acts as staff representative when specialized and private groups are present utilizing the facility, serving as an advisor and aide in technical matters.
- Provide a variety of general information to the public regarding parks and recreation operations and programs; respond to questions and resolve complaints as needed.
- Maintains records and makes reports as directed, including weekly department reports, attendance reports, program, and personnel reports.
- Ensures all monies collected for ice department are handled according to District policy.
- Assist with policy enforcement and procedural manuals; conduct periodic staff meetings to provide and gather information, answer questions and respond to complaints and concerns, both internally and externally. Review program rules with teams and resolve any disputes in a timely manner.
- Oversees general operations of the facility and works closely with the Supervisor Ice and Facility Maintenance, Building Infrastructure and Construction Maintenance Department to coordinate major maintenance, repair, or construction needs and to ensure energy conservation.
- Supervises and trains the staff on care, maintenance, and upkeep of the skating facility.
- Initiates, develops, and maintains a safety program for the ice department with emphasis on emergency first aid procedures and treatment, as well as the proper reporting of accidents and injuries.
- Inspects and supervises the facility to determine adequacy and adherence to generally recognized standards including the areas of quality of leadership, program content, cleanliness, and safety.
- Recognize emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly and calmly; administer first aid as needed. Completes Accident/Incident report.
- Observe necessary precautions to assure general public safety; inspect facilities/grounds for safety and maintenance needs.
- Maintains accurate inventories, including building, equipment, and program supplies.
- Purchases supplies and equipment for the ice department and its program according to District policy.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings and orientations.
- Attend work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis. Nights and Weekends are required.

- Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Business or other closely related field.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience working in an ice skating facility or other similar position that includes one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- Experience in an administrative position operating a youth or adult hockey league is preferred.
- Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications, And Other Requirements
- CPR, First Aid and AED certificates or the ability to obtain upon hire required.
- Training in current Youth Sports issues including parent, coach and/or officials is preferred.
- Level 4 USA Hockey or above, current ISI and/or PSA Member and/or current USA Hockey C.E.P. is preferred.
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of community ice skating programs including operation, maintenance and programming. Must understand the general philosophy of recreation and its application to ice skating programs. Knowledge of basic techniques and methodology of organizing groups in a recreation setting.
- The ability to: provide and teach superior customer service and successfully interact with employees, customers, audit cash flow and daily cash reports with accuracy and proper handling in adherence to established procedures and tactfully investigate and resolve issues.
- The ability to interpret and evaluate work of staff effectively.
- Skilled in training, communications and public relations.
- Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbally.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Ability to provide outstanding customer service and get along with coworkers, patrons, and supervisors and interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner.
Material And Equipment UsedTo successfully perform the required job duties, this position regularly uses a phone, computer, printer, fax and other office equipment. This position also regularly operates a Zamboni, and a hand held two way radio. This position may need to drive a personal vehicle to various District facilities.
Working EnvironmentThis position primarily works in a busy office environment located in a loud Family Entertainment Center and office environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. The employee is exposed to wet, cold and slippery conditions. Will be working in a cool environment; the temperature at the ice rink(s) will vary from 40-55 degrees Fahrenheit. Occasionally works outside subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems and landscape.
Physical RequirementsStand, walk, handle and operate objects and office equipment, reach outward and above shoulder and carry, pull, push or lift up to 25 lbs. May occasionally ice skate, climb, crawl, kneel and lift up to 50 lbs. The employee must be able to see close up and at a distance with vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. The employee must communicate clearly and effectively, must understand and be understood.
